First christian church of macon IS A DIVERSE, GENEROUS AND FAITHFUL CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY.

First Christian Church of Macon, Georgia, warmly welcomes all who enter here seeking Christ’s love and grace in their lives and those seeking a community of faith in which to grow. We believe that Christ’s love can transform brokenness and suffering into hope and peace, and in turn that those who experience hope and peace will continue to transform lives in our community.

We want to be a place where anyone – and we mean anyone – can experience a renewed, reconciled and loving relationship with Jesus Christ. Whoever you are and whatever your background, there's a place for you here.

We covenant as a church to commit ourselves to the following call or mission from God:

  • To worship God with our whole being;

  • To welcome and affirm with Christ’s love all who enter our church in search of grace;

  • To be creative and enthusiastic in our outreach and mission to the community;

  • To remain receptive and creatable in our understanding of God’s call to us as individuals and as a church.

What We Believe

Our Identity

We are Disciples of Christ, a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world.
As part of the one body of Christ, we welcome all to the Lord’s Table as God has welcomed us.

Our Mission

To be and to share the Good News of Jesus Christ, witnessing, loving and serving from our doorsteps “to the ends of the earth.”
– Acts 1:8

Our Vision

To be a faithful, growing church, that demonstrates true community, deep Christian spirituality and a passion for justice.
– Micah 6:8

Our Confession

As members of the Christian Church,
We confess that Jesus is the Christ,
the Son of the living God,
and proclaim him Lord and Savior of the world.
(from the Preamble to The Design of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)

PRACTICES WE VALUE MOST

  • Weekly communion (the Lord’s Supper) that is offered to all who are part of the worship service.

  • Creating a community where differences of belief are welcomed. We are all on a journey of faith and no one person or religious group has achieved absolute understanding.

  • Everyone can be a minister. We believe that all men and women, whether ordained or not, can lead in worship, serve communion and minister to the people in the church. God has work for all of us to do.

  • We strive for unity with other Churches by looking for ways to work with any denomination or religious tradition that seeks to show God’s love, acceptance and welcome to all people.

BELIEFS WE VALUE MOST

  • All people are children of God and worthy of God’s love and grace.

  • Walking in the footsteps of Jesus will transform our lives and the world.

  • Through the power of the Holy Spirit we are moved to do the impossible.

  • God continues to speak to us through our sacred text, the Bible. As we devote ourselves to the study of the Scriptures we come to understand how God desires us to live.

FCC CORE VALUES

  • Liturgical Worship: We believe our rich history equips us to continue and improve liturgical worship.

  • Progressive Christianity: Enabling and facilitating Christ’s presence in our world calls for inquisitive minds, passionate hearts and strong commitments.

  • Congregational Life: Being God’s love for each other is our most important ministry.

  • Community: We believe that Christ compels us to be a force for positive change in our community.
